Pirramimma was acquired by the Johnston Family in1892. It has remained in the family ever since.It is now one of McLaren Vale's most important wineries, both in quantity and quality. Its vineyard holdings are extensive with over 500 acres now plated to vines. The Johnston's pick the best for themselves and sell the rest to other premium winemakers.

The winery is led by third generation winemaker Geoff Johnston. Geoff has overseen the wineries evolution from primarily fortified wines and bulk sales to award-winning varietal wines. Geoff also is responsible for the wineries innovative rammed-earth aging cellar built into the hillside above the winery, as well as an extensive barrel management and replacement program.

The Johnston family strategy has always been to offer outstanding wines at affordable prices. With this in mind, Stock's Hill wines were introduced in the early 1980's. Stock's Hill wines are now Pirramimma's top selling wines in Australia, with their estate-bottled shiraz and chardonnay leading the way.

Today, Pirramimma is considered one of McLaren Vale's most important wineries.
