Beauty, soil and air enticed Philip Jones, winemaker and owner of TASMAN BAY to plant his vineyards on the north shore of New Zealand's South Island. With one of the cleanest environments found anywhere, rich clay soil, and a temperate climate, this is one of the world's most pristine wine-growing regions.

Philip Jones graduated from the University of California with degrees in Viticulture and pest management, later training as a winemaker at Fresno State University. He spent 18 years consulting to the horticulture industry conducting research and development.

Before deciding to establish his vineyard and winery in Nelson, he toured the country, closely examining the soils, climate and the viticultural history of each region.

Since 1995, Tasman Bay has achieved a stunning record of trophies, gold medals, and international acclaim, including: Best Full-Bodied White Wine - Sydney, Best New Zealand Wine - San Francisco, and Reserve Wine of Show - Auckland, among many others.
